Photo Series “Paper Shelter” by Alina Araslanova
The photo series “Paper Shelter” by Alina Araslanova was created between 2023 and 2024 under the impression of the war in Ukraine. The images tell a deeply personal story of growing up in exile — of losing one’s homeland, saying goodbye to school, and leaving behind familiar surroundings.
At the core of the series lie themes such as youth, identity, and the desire to emotionally withdraw — conveyed through covered faces, still poses, and symbolic props. The photographs speak of loneliness, change, uncertainty, and the attempt to find grounding in a new world.
The series traces a journey — from the suppression of one’s own emotions to the gradual process of self-acceptance, the discovery of boundaries, femininity, and inner desires.
In 2024, two artist friends joined the project, adding an international dimension. Their contributions address topics such as “femininity in every man” and the conscious experience of the here and now.
The series has received multiple international awards and has been exhibited worldwide.
The book “Paper Shelter” is published in 2025 by @form.galerie
